Good morning from Dallas! I am coming to you from the Dallas-Fort Worth airport as I layover on my way to Los Angeles. I am headed there to meet with a friend of mine (and former Miss USA/first runner-up to Miss Universe!) Shandi Finnessey. We are going to put the finishing touches on my Miss Missouri USA prep. Only FIVE weeks to go!! Check out her totally awesome and inspiring blog here!
Before I jump ahead to THIS weekend I want to re-cap our absolutely, positively amazing trip to New York last weekend. We checked off seeing SO many people and things and yet still came back relaxed and refreshed.
On Friday we landed in New York in the late evening after a slight delay from St. Louis. We checked into our hotel, cleaned up a bit and headed out to make our reservation at Craft: New York. Marc and I are huge Top Chef fans (anyone watching the new season in New Orleans?!) and head judge Tom Colicchio has three Craft locations (the Dallas location has closed so now its just LA and NY) all of which we have enjoyed.
If you ever have the opportunity to eat at one of his restaurants you absolutely MUST get the gnocchi. To this day, I maintain it is the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. Period. Every bite of the small potato gnocchi melts on your tongue and explodes with the richest, most divinely creamy flavor you can fathom.
Saturday morning we got up early and Marc and I ran our separate ways. He headed to Central Park where he took this gorgeous sunrise photo on his jog.
I ran from the Essex House JW Marriott where we were staying over to the Omni Hotel where one of my girlfriends from my time living in Florida happened to be staying on a girl’s weekend with her mother in law. Convenient timing and it was great to see her.
After we cleaned up, Marc headed to his conference (the “reason we went to New York City”) and I met up with my college roommate and friend, Natalie, who lives in Manhattan now. We had a fabulously long brunch catching up where she asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding next July! I am beyond thrilled to be as involved as I can be in her big day.
Saturday afternoon Marc and I did some walking around the city. I showed him where I used to work in Rockefeller Center during my time working at Nightly News with Brian Williams in 2008. We also popped in to St. Patrick’s Cathedral and a few shops.
Saturday night we went to dinner with Marc’s friend from Notre Dame who is in residency in New York along with his girlfriend whom we met for the first time. I really enjoyed getting to know both of them better! Then we headed to the Gershwin Theater to see Wicked!! For those who don’t know, it’s supposed to be the musical “prequel” to the Wizard of Oz.
I’ve seen the show several times but this was the first time I’ve seen it on Broadway. It was fabulous! I was giddy like a child when Glinda the good witch came down in her bubble, reminiscent of the time I covered the off-Broadway tour and got to go up in the bubble! Such an experience!!
Sunday morning we slept in, got room service, ran four miles in Central Park then met up with ANOTHER friend, Christina, who flew into NYC for business from LA. We went to brunch with Christina, Natalie, and her soon-to-be hubby, Max.
With a bit of time to kill in the afternoon we shopped a bit more and picked up my favorite candle of all time at Henri Bendel.
We headed to the airport late afternoon and flew home to our puppy-in-waiting! It was a jam-packed but truly wonderful weekend!
Let’s Chat: Have you ever been to New York City? If so, what has been your favorite attraction? If not, what would you like to see or do there?
